Educating parents of children with autism is a necessary step toward helping the children and their families, but it is only the first step, according to a new study conducted by a team led by noted autism experts Lawrence Scahill and Karen Bearss. The multi-site study, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, concludes that parents who undergo extensive 24-week training courses on how to treat children with autism appear to be able to help reduce and better deal with the disruptive behavioral problems that are so common in children with autism.
